Tim’s musical journey started at the age of six when he became a boy chorister at Chelmsford Cathedral in the UK. After a short
while singing the daily services and being surrounded by such magnificent sacred and secular music, he was hooked!
As a countertenor, Tim began studying for his music degree at Goldsmith’s College, University of London in 2001, after which he
was fortunate enough to be offered a Vocal Scholarship to study for a Postgraduate Diploma at Trinity College of Music. During
this time, Tim became a Choral Scholar at The Royal Naval College Chapel in Greenwich, alongside regular work with many of the
UK’s finest choral ensembles, including Stile Antico and Ex Cathedra Consort.
In 2006, he successfully auditioned for the prestigious position of Alto Lay Clerk at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. After
just two years there, Tim was invited to audition for The King’s Singers and was part of this wonderful Grammy-winning a cappella
vocal ensemble for ten happy years. Highlights included trips to Australia, New Zealand and South America, with performances in the
Royal Albert Hall, The Musikverein and the Sydney Opera House. He was fortunate enough to tour the world, singing over 1500 concerts
in some of the world’s greatest venues. Tim has taught over 500 masterclasses and workshops, imparting chamber music skills and
techniques to choirs and instrumentalists across the globe.
Since leaving The King’s Singers in 2018, he continues to thrive as part of the choral scene internationally. Tim was the Artistic
Director of CHORALSPACE's Berlin Winter Festival 2021 and Summer Festival 2022. He manages an exciting roster of artists and holds
consultancy roles with vocal ensembles in Australia, Canada and the UK. In 2022 Tim began an exciting collaboration with UKARIA as
Choral Consultant.
Tim loves the opportunity to adjudicate choral competitions and to coach choirs of all sizes, taking great pleasure from working with
musicians of all ages and ability. He is the founder of The A Cappella Academy and enjoys travelling globally to spend time with singers,
helping them to master the craft of performance. In March 2021, he emigrated to New Zealand with his Kiwi wife and two children. Tim is
absolutely thrilled to now call Aotearoa home, and delighted to be collaborating with so many wonderful performers across the Southern
Hemisphere.
We welcome Tim and his family to New Zealand and his future work here in New Zealand.
